Academics

Access to tutors for academic support and spaces devoted to academic work are staples of 5th Element Center for Dance.

In order to combat an achievement gap across not only academics but all facets of students’ lives, it is important for us to provide vehicles to success for the students, academically, creatively, and otherwise. After all, students tend to meet their goals when expectations and accountability measures are set collaboratively and they have the resources to meet those expectations.

By age 2, Black and Latino children score lower in expressive vocabulary, listening comprehension, and other indicators of acuity. Key factors in the gap include poverty rates, diminished teacher and school quality, unsettled neighborhoods, ineffective parenting, personal trauma, and peer group influence, which only strengthens as children grow older.

We work to combat these factors’ influence on our students success in all areas.
